Officer Elton Simmons is a great role model for affective community policing
After 20 years on the force and over 25,000 traffic stops the odds of a cop not getting at least one complaint, even something petty, is nearly a statistical impossibility. Nearly. LA Sherif’s Deputy Elton Simmons has proven that with the right attitude — a dash of authority, mixed with diplomacy and respect— a traffic cop can leave quite a positive impression on speeders he tickets. In fact, most speeders are well aware that they are speeding and only get defensive and angry when the ticketing officer treats them as less than. Hopefully more cops will take after Officer Simmons sense of respect for their fellow citizens.
